What my bored hubby does in his free time

You must admit, it's quite funny...

Vision restored

Underwent Lasik surgery last Friday. Hubby was wonderfully supportive. He even accompanied me into the OT. Said it was scarier than my C-section.

Not that I needed someone to lend me courage. I was surprisingly calm and the only time I panicked a little was when I lost my vision for a few seconds as the machine sucked up the cornea tissue before Dr Yeoh created the flap.

The rest of the evening I felt as if I was in a room with a thousand cut onions. Was tearing the whole night and good thing I was given a dose of Stilnox.

The next morning, I could already see quite clearly and the discomfort was more or less gone. I looked fine save for a few burst capillaries (Val says I look like Darth Maul but pointed out to her that it was his pupils that were red and not the surrounding area). Really hope this will clear up by the time we go to Chiang Mai or else I won't look very nice in the family photos. As it is, I'm now having to tell everyone it's NOT conjunctivitis!

Apart from wearing eye shields at night for the past five nights (oh, I hate them so!), I've also had to put 2 kinds of eye drops. One is an antibiotic while the other is an anti-inflammatory.

Bug-eye-boo

I'm glad I chose to have it done at Advance Vision. The whole experience was great. Staff were pleasant and not pushy and Dr Yeoh is a very experienced in this field, having trained under world-reknowned surgeons and worked for 10 years in Ireland. It was when, during my first check-up, he took the time to chat with me and answer all my questions that I was sold on doing it here. What's more, it's his own business so he calls the shots and is not a puppet acting on behalf of investors. Although I went for the microkeratome (i.e. mechanical blade) and not the intralase procedure, I was comforted by the fact that this model of machine has been in use for years with a very high success rate. After all, it's track record, not latest technology, that you want.

I've been wearing glasses for 17 years and contact lenses for 16 years so I forget how it feels not to be myopic. Now everytime I wake up (which is like 5 times a day - once in the morning and at least 4 times at night), I'm like "Darn, did I forget to remove my lenses again?".

I can see clearly now the rain is gone...

A few more firsts...

Wrote this draft more than a month ago but didn't have time to edit and post till now...

Have started showering Nat (as opposed to bathing) to prepare her for our Chiang Mai trip. I sure ain't gonna lug a baby bathtub all the way there! She was bewildered at first when I placed the shower over her head but she soon learned to bow her head so the water did not enter her eyes, nose and mouth. It's not easy holding up a wet and slippery baby I tell you, but I think Nat enjoyed the sensation of the shower spray. She kept holding out her hands to catch the water.

Last Saturday, Dad got us free tickets, complete with popcorn and drink each, for Spiderman 3 at TGV KLCC. Since it was a family affair, decided to bring Nat too. So it was the first time for both me and her at the cinema since her birth. It was a 2.30 movie so we settled into our seats at 2.15. It was almost feeding time but Nat's eyes were riveted to the screen, enthralled by the non-stop flashing of trailers and ads. She must have been thinking "What an awesome TV!". Val called to her several times before she turned to give a consolation glance and immediately swung back to face the screen.

A few minutes into the show, she started to fidget, looking for food so I fed her. In the dark, sandwiched between hubby and Val, I didn't have to feel at all embarassed about pulling up my blouse and nursing Nat. Ah... the beauty of breastfeeding... There were times when I could see her eyes wide open wondering what the noise at the front was.

She fell asleep after a while and I let her comfort suck for approx 45 minutes. Had to cover her ears in case she got woken up by the loud surround sounds though. When she woke up, she watched the rest of she show together with us and towards the end, during a part with dialogue, started babbling quite loudly and I had to silence her by nursing again. A few people behind us giggled though. All-in-all, a good experience though tiring when I cradled her to sleep as the seats were so narrow I couldn't rest my arms well.

Also began feeding her solids this week. I know she's barely 5-and-a-half months but there seems to be no satiating her appetite with only milk anymore. Decided to start out with organic brown rice cereal from Country Farms. She loves it! The instant I put the spoon into her mouth, there was no turning back. She kept lunging forward for more. I couldn't even spoon the cereal fast enough for her! Su says that she looked like a frog attacking an insect. So bad!!

Midnight ramblings

You are so beautiful
I wish you'll just stay the way you are
So tiny, so helpless, so dependent on me
Growing right before my eyes
Everyday you learn more and more
Someday you will no longer need me
and though you will make me proud,
the thought saddens me
I know I will have to eventually let go of you
but I don't want to
I can't bear the thought of you leaving me
I want to protect you from everything cruel
My hope is for you to be a good person
with strong values
and a love of God
No matter what
always know that my love for you
will only grow with each passing moment
